The term ilex is latin word for the scientific genus of the holly plant. Holly plants can be found all over the world and are known to be a natural attraction to animals seeking nourishment, protection, or a warm refuge.

The project

The ilex is home to my musings, my ramblings, and highlights my hope to foster a community filled with adventure, good music, good martinis, laughs and love. As The ilex grows, I’ll share my favorite spots in Los Angeles and beyond, drop a note about my hobby of the week, and share a little insight about what brings joy to my day to day. A native Ohioan, Holly Yanai lives in Los Angeles, California with her pet rabbit Klaus. In an effort to stay curious, she is constantly trying out new hobbies, trying to meet new people, and in her downtime she can be found with a martini in hand in the depths of a dark dance hall.
